High On Grass

Happy Argus is discovering the joys of green pasture turnout. Our little turnout is at long last dry enough to welcome him. He stays near fences for security, taking a few bites and then walking, almost as if the big blue sky is too vast for comfort.

It has taken a thousand baby steps, each building on the last, to come to this point. Yesterday, Argus and Ridge stayed out in their turnout from 10am to 2pm. Argus strolled merrily from one end of the little pasture to the other, stopping to take bites and sniff and investigate every blade of grass. He stayed calm the entire time, no fence running, no nervous pacing. I was immensely proud of him, and told him so.

These were taken this morning. The look on his face says it all.

I took this by accident while I was fiddling with the camera. It was hard to photograph Argus because he followed me everywhere, like a puppy dog. He does not react to my "shooshing" him away because I have tried so hard not to scare him! We need to do some Parelli games!

Just wonderful. I look forward to your posts since you have been given two gifts : the ability to write and the ability to empathize. Argus is so very fortunate and he does know it! You are his spokesperson. "His" words speak to anyone who will hear - and they are filled with the wonderment and joy only those who have never had it can appreciate. Thanks from on e of Argie's and your admirers.

That is such a sweet, relaxed, happy horse. He's getting very handsome! You can see the realisation on his face that this new life is real, it's not just a lovely dream from which he will wake to find himself once more in Hell. It amazes me how sweet he is, you'd think he'd be totally psychotic after what he'd been through.

Reading your posts always make me sniffle a bit. I'm in awe of what you've done for Argus, how hard you've worked so he can "just be a horse".

Oh, Katie. He is just BEAUTIFUL! Look at how he's growing, and rounding out, and at the development in his legs and his haunches...WOW!

And, my goodness, he is just the HANDSOMEST fellow, isn't he? The shot of his head, nose touching the grass, got me so misty I can barely see to write. Bless you, bless you, bless you. Please tell Argies that his admirer in Seaside still loves him. Best to you and yours, including Argus!

I have to admit, I was going through Argus withdrawal, and had reread everything from day one. I really like the shadow pic, "just me...and my....shadow". I sing all the time (not very well, but frequently) so a song naturally comes to mind. He's worth singing about.
Thank you for your love and compassion and for acting on it.

Wow, what beautiful pictures of him! That's so heart warming to see him just being a HORSE. I love that picture of his head in the grass, and your guy's shadows. Congratulations on such success with him!

Oh, you need to enlarge that last photo and frame it for the house. as simple as it is, it still is an amazing photo! The first one that is all just his head eating grass is wonderful too.

Argus is such a lucky boy to have such wonderful people come into his life.

Today I opened this blog, and happily exclaimed "Argie!" out loud, with a big grin on my face, before I realized what I was doing.

Even my non-horsey friends know who Argie is. I keep them updated on how he is coming and they sometimes ask on their own how he is doing. I bring him up in conversation, and no explanation as to who he is is ever needed, as though he is a mutual friend we see often.

It's funny to think how non-horsey people, a whole country away, know Argus by name.

I love your writing and I love Argus. You write with such love and hope and promise and experience. We see thru Argus'"2 yr old" eyes the love , hope and promise, which he could never in his long, sorrowful life ever have imagined. He is now free to live a horse's life----to walk, eat, nicker,-----hopefully to prance and run---------to have a pasture buddy and a human, who loves him! You are both so lucky and we look, with joy and expectation, for your next page! Thank you for saving him!
